Certified Welding Inspector (AWS)

$1,295 -  8 week course.

This class prepares you for all three parts of the 6 hour AWS exam, topics include:

  • General information, terminology, welding metallurgy, welding symbols, destructive and nondestructive testing.
  • Learning your way around the D1.1, how to reference it quickly and how it applies in the field.
  • Use of inspection tools, measuring welds and discontinuities, when can discontinuities be accepted and rejected.

  • AWS Structural Welding Code (steel) D1.1 (2015)
  • Welding Inspection Technology 5th Edition, 2008

New Schedule Format

Due to AWS' new exam requirements and schedule we are changing the format of our CWI class.
The schedule for this CWI class will be the following:

Class 1 August 10th - Go over application requirements and exam prep.

Class 2 September 14th - Part B and General Requirements
Class 3 September 21st - Part B and General Requirements
Class 4 September 28th - Part B and General Requirements
Class 5 October 5th - Part B final exam and review

October 12th Part B exam in Long Beach, CA

Class 6 October 19th - Code Requirements (D1.1)
Class 7 October 26th - Code Requirements (D1.1)
Class 8 November 2nd - Closed Book (General Requirements) and Code (D1.1) final exam and review

Work Experience Requirements

To qualify as a Certified Welding Inspector, you must pass a vision test and have a combination of qualifying education and work experience, with supporting documentation:

MINIMUM EDUCATION MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor or higher degree in welding engineering or welding technology - (4) years maximum substitution Minimum of (1) years welding based work experience
Associate or higher degree in welding or non-welding related engineering technology, engineering, or a physical science - (3) years maximum substitution Minimum of (2) years welding based work experience
Engineering/Technical courses that can be applied to Bachelor or higher degree in Welding - (2) years maximum substitution Minimum of (3) years welding based work experience
Trade/Vocational courses - (1) year maximum substitution for successfully completed courses Minimum of (4) years welding based work experience
High school diploma or approved high school equivalency diploma Minimum of (5) years welding based work experience
8th grade level of schooling Minimum of (9) years welding based work experience
Less than 8th grade Minimum of (12) years welding based work experience
